This kit, originally intended as an introduction to the culture of contemporary China, now serves as an historical artifact in its own right. The contents include two volumes of writing by Chairman Mao, along with several small toys, a game of xiangqi (Chinese chess), and several picture books. This kit could serve as a springboard for critical analysis with older students to discuss historical and contemporary relations between China and the West, perceptions of foreign nations, or the place of politics in education.
